Here's a painting of an Albertosaurus (a real dinosaur) that I did for my Design illustration class. The idea was to have them shrunk down to stamp size and still be legible, which is why there is pretty much no background. Also we were experimenting with classic lighting.
I did it in acrylic with 3 painting techniques, Drybrushing (For most of the dinosaurs definition and hue, Glazes (for cast shadows on face and some reflected light) and some dabbing for the upper half of the background.
